Laundry
Wash & Fold vs. Doing It Yourself: An Honest Cost Breakdown
We ran the numbers on a typical household week, counting detergent, power, water, and the hours. Here's where the line actually falls.
MODA Cleaners

It’s a fair question and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch: is a wash and fold service actually worth it, or is it just paying someone to do something easy?
What doing it yourself really costs
For a typical household running four to five loads a week, the direct costs are small but not nothing: detergent, softener, water, and the electricity for the machine and, more significantly, the dryer.
The bigger cost is the part nobody counts. Four loads is roughly four hours of your week once you include sorting, moving things between machines, folding, and putting away. Not four continuous hours. Four hours chopped into fragments that stop you doing anything else properly.
Where a service makes sense
It clearly makes sense when:
- Your week is genuinely full and the laundry keeps losing.
- You don’t have a machine, or share one.
- You’re dealing with volume: a family, a houseshare, a business.
- You’ve got a backlog you can’t face starting.
It clearly doesn’t when:
- You have a machine, a routine that works, and don’t mind the task.
- Your volume is low, one or two loads a week.
The honest middle ground
Plenty of people use both, and we’d say that’s the sensible answer for most households. Everyday laundry at home; sheets, towels, and the week you’re travelling with us.
There’s no minimum commitment and no subscription. Use it the weeks you need it.
What you get either way
Everything is washed by household, never mixed with anyone else’s. Tell us your preferences once and we keep them on file: water temperature, detergent, no softener, hang-dry the workout gear. It comes back folded and sorted, ready to put away.
Ready to hand it off to us?
