How We Work
What Green Earth Cleaning Means for Your Clothes and Your Skin
Most dry cleaners still use a petroleum solvent called perc. Green Earth replaces it with silicone. Here's what actually changes.
MODA Cleaners

If you’ve ever collected clothes from a dry cleaner and noticed a faint chemical smell, you’ve met perchloroethylene. “Perc”, to the trade. It’s a petroleum-based solvent and it’s been the industry default for decades.
We don’t use it. We clean with Green Earth instead.
What Green Earth actually is
Green Earth is a silicone-based solvent: chemically, liquid silicone, closely related to the base used in a lot of skincare and cosmetics. It breaks down into sand, water, and carbon dioxide.
It cleans by lifting soil away from fibres rather than aggressively stripping it out. The practical result: it’s noticeably gentler on fabric, and it doesn’t leave anything behind that you can smell.
What changes for you
No chemical smell. Clothes come back smelling of nothing at all, which is what clean should smell like.
Gentler on delicates. Silks, cashmere, beading, and anything with a hand-finished detail take less of a beating. Colours hold longer.
Better if you have sensitive skin. Nothing residual sits against your skin all day. This matters more than people expect for anyone with eczema or contact sensitivity.
Better for the neighbourhood. Perc is a regulated substance with real disposal requirements. Silicone isn’t.
What doesn’t change
It cleans just as well. This is the part worth being blunt about, because “eco” often implies a compromise. It doesn’t here. The same stains come out, the same finish comes back.
The one question we get asked
“Does it cost more?”
No. It’s simply how we clean everything.
